A group of Vietnam War veterans has a score to settle with Brendan Nelson, the departing defence minister and the new leader of the Liberal Party.

The veterans say they wrote to Dr Nelson earlier this year and asked him to explain why there is no trace of records from a platoon in which they served for six weeks in the late 1960s.

One of the men, Don Tate, says the platoon was involved in significant battles and it is devastating not to have proof of their service.
